Our Division of e-Learning Innovation is proud to partner with the government of Ontario to help support the new enhanced 18-month well-baby visit. The culmination of many people's efforts over the years, including the Ontario College of Family Physicians, Dr Fraser Mustard, Dr Robin Williams, Dr Jean Clinton, Dr Linda Comley, and many others, the Ministries of Children and Youth Services, Health and Long-Term Care, and Health Promotion and following through on the recommendations of an expert panel to focus on the importance of the early years and childhood development.

Learn more about the enhanced 18-month well-baby visit and access resources here.

QUOTES

"With a deepened focus on child development, the enhanced visit builds on the physical checkup and helps parents learn more about the ways they can help their kids get ready to learn and reach their full potential."
–Laurel Broten, Minister of Children and Youth Services.

"Ontario has recognized the critical importance of early child development and the role that primary care providers play in ensuring that all children meet their developmental potential. The new 18-month checkup will connect more families to community resources and more children to the services and support they need, improving the odds for Ontario's children."
–Dr. Robin Williams, Medical Officer of Health, Niagara Region

"Early child development sets the foundation for learning, behaviour and health. Getting kids on the right path in the early years is one of the best investments we can make as a society and helps us tap the tremendous human potential of our children."
–Dr. Fraser Mustard, The Founders' Network

What do you get when you team up a master cardiology educator with our outstanding e-Learning team?

An online case-based conceptual approach to cardiology known to its friends as www.talesfromtheheart.ca.

Developed by Dr. Ernest Fallen, Dr Anthony Levinson and the Division of e-Learning Innovation team at the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University, Tales represents the first such comprehensive resource on cardiology, and a stunning example of excellence in online medical education. The ten interactive chapters cover a range of core concepts such as the mechanisms underlying cardiovascular syndromes such as angina, MI, valvular disease and others.

Dr Ernest Fallen: "We wanted to emphasize key concepts in cardiovascular physiology, so medical students and residents can better apply this knowledge in the care of their patients.”

We applied evidence-based methods to e-learning with case-based scenarios and multimedia in every byte. Since Al Gore invented the internet in 1992, health educators have been waiting for the thinking person's online cardiology resource.

Testimonials:

"I think it's phenomenal that this type of quality educational resource is available to the whole world. It gives me tachycardia just thinking about it." Dr U.O.

"My favourite animation is the explanation of the echo. Before, I thought I was looking in utero, now I see chambers and valves.” Dr. N.S.M.

Tales from the Heart is available to the globe on machealth at
